What is orienteering you ask? A competitive sport in which participants find their way to various checkpoints across rough country with the aid of a map and compass, the winner being the one with the lowest elapsed time.
We will break the Scouts up into smaller groups, mixing age ranges so that the younger Scouts can work with the older Scouts.
We will be showing the Scouts:
- The 4 cardinal points(N S E W)
- How to use a compass
- How to navigate using the sun and moss on a tree.
- How to make a compass
We will then have the groups navigate through the park using their compass and a map to find specific trees that will have marking on them. The markings will be used to solve a riddle.
Please have the Scouts wear their orange Pack t-shirts and masks are required.
We will be meeting at 3:00 P.M. (1500), expect the event to last about 2 hours.
